How to read a peptide certificate of analysis

A certificate is useful only within its stated product, sample and method scope.

Structure last reviewed: 22 September 2026

Direct answer: A certificate is useful only within its stated product, sample and method scope.

Which identifiers should be checked?

The product name, labelled amount, report identifier, sample or lot identifier and date should be visible in a published record and interpreted according to its stated scope.

How should reported results be read?

Each result row needs a label, reported state and, when published, its value, unit and method. A numerical value is not automatically a pass without a stated criterion.

What can the certificate not establish?

A report for one sample or variant cannot be generalized to every vial, another variant or an unmapped batch.

Example: match a report to the exact material

Consider a hypothetical certificate that names a product, labelled amount, sample identifier and HPLC result. Those fields let a reader identify what was reported for that sample. They do not, by themselves, show that every vial has the same result or that the sample matches a later shipment. A separate, verified lot mapping would be needed for that claim.

Which sources frame interpretation?

The following regulatory sources explain general analytical-procedure concepts. They are not product reports and are not evidence of Define testing.
